Russia-Ukraine War: The Russia-Ukraine war has taken an important turn. The first talks to end the war were held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Only American and Russian officials attended this meeting. At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was not invited. In such a situation, the concerns of European countries including Ukraine have increased.
US is ignoring Ukraine’s demands
In the first talks held in Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh, American and Russian officials have stressed on ending this war as soon as possible. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, NSA i.e. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff participated in this meeting from America’s side. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s senior aide Yuri Ushakov participated from Russia’s side.
Representatives of Saudi Arabia were also present at the meeting. During the meeting, officials of both countries ignored media questions asking whether the US was ignoring Ukraine’s demands. Also, what concessions is the US official seeking from Russia for itself. In a statement issued by the Kremlin after the meeting, it was said that the Riyadh talks could bring clarity on a possible meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed that US-Russia relations could also improve.
Will not accept agreements made behind the back
At the same time, US officials said on Tuesday’s meeting that they want to know whether Russia is serious about ending the war. On the other hand, Ukraine and European countries are keeping an eye on this meeting. Ukraine and European leaders are worried that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin may reach a hasty agreement. This agreement may ignore their security interests. They also say that America will reward Russia for attacking its neighbor and will leave Vladimir Putin free to threaten Ukraine or other countries in the future.
They believe that Donald Trump has already made major concessions to Russia by rejecting NATO membership for Ukraine and calling Ukraine’s desire to regain all its lost territories an illusion. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly been saying that we will not accept agreements made behind the back. Let us tell you that this meeting took place less than a month after President Donald Trump took office and 6 days after talking to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone.
